Oller del Mas

Oller del Mas is located in the heart of Catalonia, at the foot of Montserrat. With more than 1000 years of history, the castle of Oller del Mas has been home for 36 generations.
Here too, because of phylloxera, most of the viticulture had fallen into disrepair. But in the last decades this has been rebuilt and they started making quality wines with the aim of making the best wines of Catalonia. Oller del Mas decided in 2004 that they really wanted to make the best wine in Catalonia, and a team was put together to do it in the most sustainable and best way for the country. 

The microclimate created by Montserrat is essential for the quality of the wine. Rain stays on the other side of the mountain and creates a stable, but also extreme climate. Large temperature fluctuations during the day and night provide the ideal conditions for good ripening and the cold winters create the ideal conditions for the vines to relax.

In addition, Oller del Mas works hard to bring back the autochthonous varieties as much as possible and to make wine according to the old methods, which ensures that the wines come into their own even better. And in recent years there has been an even stronger focus on this, thanks to the new young winemaker Carles Muray. Working more with the natural balance in the vineyard to make better wine. With wineries such as Matassa van Tom Lubbe as inspiration, Carles has set his sights on making the wines as pure and clean as possible. Natural wine is his love, and he has managed to produce some fantastic natural wines from 2019 onwards. So good that most are already sold out! 

At Oller del Mas 100% organic and sustainability are of paramount importance and all vineyards are completely self-managed. Besides that, the winery is #3 in the world when it comes to CO₂emissions with only 0.7 grams per liter of wine.

The family's ambition to produce the best wines in Catalonia has certainly been achieved. With wines such as the recognized Vi de Finca (Grand Cru) Arnau Oller and the fantastic and limited Especial Picapoll Negre, they have made wines that can easily compete with the better Bordeaux and Burgundy wines. Also in the field of natural wines, you cannot go around Oller del Mas anymore. Now it's just Els Merlets and Els Aurons, but Carles is already working on 3 new wines... So keep an eye on this celler!
