Celler Lo Temps 2019
Winemaker: Celler Lo
Wine region: DOQ Priory (La Villela Baixa)
Grape varieties:
100% Carinyena
Wine description:
This is a wine that transports you straight to the vineyard: the steep slopes of Priorat where these vines stand in the Llicorella, slate with mica crystals. A soil with virtually no organic matter, water or nutrients, which makes it almost a miracle that anything grows here! These vines are well rooted, because they have been there since 1920.
The carinyena grapes are picked manually and fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 10 months in 225 and 400 liter new French oak barrels and undergoes spontaneous malolactic conversion. This results in a wine that is intense, generous and spicy. A nose rich in fresh blackberries, blueberries, a hint of dried fruit and with a spicy touch. Like almost all Priorat wines, this is a bold wine. But certainly not one that is too ripe, with a wonderful freshness and soft mouthfeel. Delicious with rich meals such as game dishes and marbled meats or aged cheeses.
The name, Temps, means time and you definitely want to have that with this wine. It continues to unfold in the glass, a wine to take your time with. This wine certainly benefits from decanting and will continue to develop in the bottle for many years to come.
